This wasn’t the post I was writing for today but as is often the way our plans change in mid air. This video was sent to me by the coordinator of the brilliant charity Youth at Risk. I have the privilege to act as a coach on some of their youth projects. I watched this and cried. It got me thinking……
Are we truly grateful for what we have and where we are in our lives? Or are we continually complaining ….. I’ll be happy when…..I lose weight/my kids have grown up/my husband listens to me/my boss takes me seriously/I get my business started/my mother gets off my back/my friends stop taking me for granted…..
Please watch this video, if you were ever in doubt of the need for a reality check….I think I can safely assume that the majority of us reading this blog don’t have to face the issues that these young people are facing…… and oh how brave are they to stop and accept the opportunity being offered them to change their lives. They are learning to take control of their lives, to accept that they and only they are responsible for their lives. Do we do the same? Do we take 100% responsibility for our lives? Do we easily blame others for where we are? I did and once I realised that if I wanted to live differently it was up to me to make the changes, grab hold of my life and begin living it from where I am right now.
If these young people can stand up in front of their peers, admit their failings and commit to making changes in their lives, what little steps can we take to accept full responsibility for our lives?
