Talk about questions you don’t want to be asked when sitting with your coach or friend or therapist! It’s the question you know you’ve been avoiding…you daren’t even give it a moment’s thought.
You’ve been unhappy for a long time, things just don’t seem to be going your way. You’re tired, aching, uninspired, lacklustre, have no energy for anything.
So what are you avoiding? That important conversation with your partner? The lump you keep feeling and pretending isn’t there? The conversation with your boss? Opening your credit card bill? Applying for a new job?
What’s stopping you?……..well I can tell you what was stopping me . F.E.A.R.
- fear of the unknown
- fear of bad news
- fear of failure
- fear of rejection
Sometimes being in the dark feels safe, we can pretend that all’s OK, that somehow the problem will solve itself or go away. And yes, sometimes this is true. However, ask yourself if you really are happier as you are in this state of not knowing? Or would you really be much better with knowledge and then knowing where you stand and what decisions you can make?
The thing about fear is that if it’s ignored it grows. Simple. Facing fear on the other hand oftentimes means that it evaporates. It is in facing our fears that we find courage.
What are you committed to? Forever remaining in the dark? Feeling afraid?
Ask yourself these questions
-
If I face my fear head on what’s the very worst that can happen?
-
How will my life be if I don’t face up to this fear?
-
What’s the first step I can make in the direction of what I fear the most?
