I’m excited to share something special with you. A few days before Christmas I was catching up with a friend. We’d not seen each other in a long time. Something happened that evening which we both felt was worth writing about and sharing. Here it is. I hope you enjoy it and take something from it. Your comments as always are most welcomed.
Rebecca…….
So there I was sitting on the sofa with Claire whom I’d not seen for over a year. We were celebrating life with a bottle of pink fizz, chewing the fat, being a bit ‘out there’ in our thinking, talking about angels and music and manifesting stuff, the more of the pink stuff we drank the freer became our talking and thinking.
And then she mentioned how much she loved heading into the East End (of London) yet it took so damn long from where we live (way out West, last page on the London A-Z). She was telling me how she’d taken almost 2 hours to get to a friend’s party the other week, to get from our neck of the woods into Liverpool Street and how in fact it might well have been easier to go up North than to the East End of London…..I looked at her blankly as I couldn’t believe how it could have taken her that long as I’d done the journey plenty of times in barely over an hour. I couldn’t believe the circuitous route she’d taken using I don’t know how many tube lines to get to the party.
I stopped her and asked, “What’s wrong with the Waterloo and City Line? You know the direct route that all the commuters take into the City every morning.” She looked at me blankly in return. “What are you talking about” she said. So I got out my iPhone and showed her the mint green coloured line on the tube map that took you directly from Waterloo to Bank therefore cutting out the crazy round the houses trip she had taken.
And after we’d laughed and laughed we got to thinking. I asked her…
‘So where else in your life could you make things a whole lot easier?
Where else are you currently over complicating your life because you’ve not ‘seen’ what’s right under your nose?’
Claire……
Breaking habits is an art. Life is not easy. My life has been hard. That is not a negative statement. It is simply a statement of fact. However, I no longer believe that life must be hard. Hard attaches negativity to life, something that brushes all the beauty of life with an ugly hue.
I find life becomes easier when I listen to my inner voice. She is my guide who encourages me to slow down. She helps me to say no and teaches me to listen. She gives me the strength to push boundaries, breakdown walls of fear, and trust to love and be loved.
As I sat talking to Rebecca about life, our experiences this year, places we like to go and aspirations for the future, I realised a wonderful thing. Up until this moment I have been taking the most complex route by public transport to East London. It is not somewhere I travel to a lot but I would like to go to more with my digital camera as I find the people and places so creative and inspiring. My journey to this creative space can now be halved by taking the light blue Waterloo and City line that has existed for years I just hadn’t opened my eyes to see it on the map!!
I want to take an easier route in life and the wonderful thing about this insight is that I am being reminded that this is possible, just not to lose sight of it.
So I guess my question to you my readers is very much the same.
How will you make today, the last day of 2012 one where you decide to make your life simpler by stopping and taking some time to ‘see’ what’s right under your nose?
