The older, silver haired, foxy gentleman has for many years got away with dating a woman young enough to be his grand-daughter. We women are more than likely to laugh and ask ourselves or each other whether he has any idea how ridiculous he looks. Other men may well look on in envy with thoughts more along the lines of ‘Go on my son’! So why is it that the older woman has become a figure of derision amongst some of the population and given the sobriquet of Mrs Robinson at best and cougar at worst. You just need to google the names Madonna, Demi Moore and Sam Taylor-Wood for evidence.
So what is the appeal of the younger man to the forty-something woman? The first word that springs to mind is vitality! With whom would you rather spend an amorous evening and night? A vital younger man or some middle-aged chap who suffers with post-coital narcolepsy?! What does happens to men (apologies to our lovely ‘vital’ older male friends!)? They do seem to go from overexcited puppy to arthritic old timer around the 40 mark. Interestingly, Catherine Zeta Jones plays a 40 year old woman who ends up dating her male nanny in her new film The Rebound. At home things are quite different with Michael Douglas admitting to taking all the medication he can to help him in the bedroom.
What seems to attract the younger man to the older woman is her self-assurance, her independence and the fact that she has nothing to prove. They appreciate the fact that she has her own life, very often her own children and career. They love that they are not going to be stalked by text and email. And for the older woman how wonderful to know that she is admired and lusted after because she is just that… an older woman, even with the wrinkled stomach that was never quite the same after giving birth, even with the ultimate symbol of all that is female, our triangle of pubic hair still intact. (The fabulously sexy cover of the Roxy Music album Country Life versus the shorn porn star that teenage boys are now more accustomed to is for discussion in another blog!)
So you’ll be pleased to know that for purely research purposes BestKnickersAlways have registered with the marvellous people at www.toyboywarehouse.com to do the leg work for you (in a manner of speaking). We will keep you posted!
We would love to hear from you! What are your thoughts and experiences? I know for a fact quite a few of our friends are either married to or in relationships with men younger than themselves!
My dear grandmother was married to a man a good deal younger than her and told me many times that age was just a number, a good few years later that advice must have trickled through some of my grey matter as I have been with my ’13 years younger than me’ gorgeous man for almost 6 years. I think grandmother may may have been right….,,,,
Much to report on the ToyboyWarehouse front but just had to write a quick rather startling observation. I have just been called a MILF………..is that something to be rather proud of or disturbed by? Did anyone read Caitlin Moran in last Saturday’s Times magazine, she wrote about this very subject in hilarious detail, I’m sure you can find her column on timesonline.
I’m still thinking about this one!
