There’s a lot happening in the world right now I think it’s fair to say. There’s a lot we have no control over. There’s much we can influence and there’s plenty we can do.
I find that way too many people spend their time worrying, stressing, getting angry over the stuff they can’t control and do nothing about the stuff they can. It boils down to quite simply where you think your experience of life is coming from. Whether you believe life happen to you or you are the creator.
You may have read by now in my newsletter or on Facebook that I’m moving back to South Wales, the home I left when I was 18. I vowed back then I’d never return! Funny that…I’m sure I’m not the only one to say that about the place they grew up!
I’ve grown up since then, I’ve experienced a lot of life, ups and downs. One of the things I’ve learned about myself is that I’m not afraid of change. And I’m hugely grateful for that. My hope is that I can share that with you.
So many people I talk to are fearful of change. They live in a constant rerun of thoughts from the past, or create stories and dramas about the future that feel really real. Change is one of the guarantees in life and if we fight it it’s a bit like swimming against the tide ALWAYS. It’s exhausting and it’s not in the natural flow of life.
Far better to embrace it, surrender to it than resist it. I’ve come to see that fear is far greater than what will actually happen.
I’ve had a variety of responses to my announcement that I’m returning home – from shock, being asked not to go, surprise, being told I’m brave, to envy (in the nicest possible way naturally!). It’s funny isn’t it. We so often see change in another through our own eyes. This isn’t the first time in my life I’ve heard, ‘oh i could never do that’…I heard it when I divorced, when I set up my own business, when I was online dating, and now when I’m moving 3 hours away to be in a place I love…
My answer is, ‘oh yes you can, you just think you can’t’ and it’s the thinking bit that’s important here lovelies.
We get so caught up in our own snowstorm of thought, of judgments of believing the labels we’ve given ourselves and it’s all made up. Every bit of it. We are the creators of our lives. No one else. Us.
Of course you might be right in that right at this precise moment you can’t up sticks and move to the coast because your family, your job, your life is currently where you live. However, don’t let that stop you moving forward, trying, seeking, exploring what’s possible.
Here are two questions I find myself asking clients when I suspect that they’re spinning a line and don’t even realise it.
- Firstly I ask them, ‘what do you know to be true.’
- And the second one is usually as a response to something I know they’re making up and hoping to convince themselves (and me) as reality. I simply say, ‘Really?’
Take a moment to as yourself these two questions when you hear yourself coming up with reasons/excuses…
My lovelies don’t let fear of the unknown, fear of past stories or anxieties for the future hold you back from pursuing something new.
We really are the only one standing in our way.
Each day really is a new start, in fact, it’s not even that…each moment gives us the chance to create a new start, to begin something new.
